This river port city is found on the San Joaquin River, which flows into San Francisco Bay. During the Gold Rush of 1849, the city grew quickly as a gateway for gold-seeking pioneers. It is the primary city of San Joaquin County, with it's main industries being agriculture, packing, storage, and ship building. Stockton's Pacific University is famous as California's oldest institute of higher learning.

Omaha

Omaha, on the Missouri River, is the largest city in Nebraska, and was named after the Omaha Indians. It is presently the heart of America's telecommunications industry, and has a long agricultural history as well. This city is also famous for its art museum, the theatre from which actor Henry Fonda made his beginning, and its many universities, including Nebraska U. and Creighton U.

Shelbyville

This city can be found just 45 km south of Indianapolis, home to the Indy 500, in the state of Indiana on the southern shores of Lake Michigan. Then annual average temperature is 12°C (53.6°F). Shelbyville has a strong agricultural base, producing wheat, soybeans, and corn, but in recent years it has seen excellent growth in the automotive parts industry.

Hue, in central Vietnam, was the old capital of the Nguyen Dynasty until 1945. Recently it is gaining popularity as a scenic city for tourism for the gently flowing Perfume River and the Royal Palace, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site (photo left). Home to some universities and 60 and over other educational institutions, Hue has come to be called the "learning centre of Vietnam."
